“Considering the Whole” Student Art Show – raised $361 for Bats!

Whole School students hosted a very successful Student Art Show on Thursday, April 18. This was a year-long art project funded by ArtStarts and inspired by Marilyn James, local Sinixt elder, coming in and sharing the story of Frog Mountain – a historical account of Sinixt resilience and survival. Along this theme, the students created beautiful, pottery frogs with Peggy Frith and Emma Hunter to hang on the school building as an outside installation. Sherry Heyliger showed the students the technique of paint pouring and the student decorated recycled LPs further decorating the outdoor space. Will Parker and a student from Kutenai Art Therapy Institute created eco-sculpture with the students in the fields and ponds surrounding the school creating a larger collaborative example as well as smaller, individual pieces.

It all came together in a celebratory event last Thursday with a bake sale to raise money for the Kootenay Community Bat Project.
